@Polkadot· about 2 months agoRT @KevinWSHPod: Why One Fund Manager Went All-In on Polkadot, and What He Sees That Others Don’t In this episode of DROPS, I sit down with Mark, founder of Scytale Digital (@scytaledigital), to discuss his journey from growing up in Brooklyn to working in traditional finance, and ultimately to his decision to focus a $20 million crypto fund almost entirely on the @Polkadot ecosystem. While much of the crypto market is driven by short-term speculation and memecoin hype, @mark_cachia_ has placed his bets on long-term utility, technical performance, and the future potential of Polkadot. From Traditional Finance to Web3 Mark began his career in capital markets, spending several years in the bond market before moving into asset management. He worked through major financial cycles, including the 2008 crisis, which he says highlighted “the fragility of the financial markets” and later inspired Bitcoin’s creation. In 2015, he co-founded a wealth management firm, managing a team of 20. It was during this time, despite personal and professional uncertainty, that he started seriously considering crypto. “Startups don’t earn money right away… and I was living off savings, with a mortgage and two kids,” he recalls. The turning point came after conversations with Ed Hesse, an early blockchain entrepreneur. Mark asked him, “Why don’t we start a fund together?” The idea was to combine Mark’s asset management experience with Ed’s access to early-stage blockchain founders and projects. Identifying Real Investment Edge A key theme throughout the conversation is Mark’s focus on identifying real edge in a noisy market. “I would never invest in someone who was just going to a market because it was a hot market,” he says. “There had to be some edge…some reason they were good at it.” In their partnership, Ed had that edge: a founder background, deep networks, and the ability to evaluate whether a project could realistically build what it claimed. “That’s kind of all you needed in 2017,” Mark notes. While raising the initial fund wasn’t easy, the idea was straightforward: source early, promising projects and make seed investments before tokens launched. If even a few succeeded, the returns could justify the risk. Why Scytale Went All-In on Polkadot Scytale’s second fund, launched in 2022, is focused on the Polkadot ecosystem. “We’re all in on Polkadot with the Scytale Polkadot Ecosystem Fund,” Mark says. “Polkadot is so performant that I don’t think it’s that much of an issue.” While the broader crypto market may overlook Polkadot due to its lower visibility, Mark sees strength in its underlying infrastructure. “The most important part of the picture is adoption and what’s going to drive adoption,” he explains. “Polkadot’s technology works and is improving, and is going to improve to such a level…” Part of that belief comes from their proximity to the ecosystem. Scytale participated in Polkadot’s first private sale and has remained “adjacent to the ecosystem ever since.” On Memecoins and Market Cycles Mark is critical of much of the speculation that dominates the crypto space today, especially in the form of memecoins. “To me, meme coins are in some way… people that are buying them only buy them to make money. And then it’s pure greater fool, zero sum,” he says. “This, to me, is more in the direction of an unregulated, unfair casino.” He draws a distinction between earlier crypto cycles, where profits were often reinvested into the ecosystem, and the current one, which he argues is more extractive: “With the meme coins… that was just like extracted from the industry and not reinvested.” Why Mythical Games Is Different While he’s skeptical of speculation, Mark sees promise in crypto gaming, especially in companies like Mythical Games (@playmythical), which he believes are building real products. “They’re making games where most of the players won’t see blockchain anywhere,” he explains. “But the blockchain aspect gives them ownership, actual ownership of assets within the game, in this case, player cards.” What excites him most is not just the games themselves, like the upcoming Pudgy Penguins game modelled after Fall Guys, but the broader adoption of Mythical’s infrastructure. “Other game publishers want to put their game on the Mythical platform… because they get it. They say, ‘Wait a second, this makes my game more competitive.’” On JAM, Governance, and Improving the System Mark is candid about Polkadot’s weaknesses. “It was not a very open architecture. It was very expensive to acquire a parachain slot, and even if you had one, it was very expensive to maintain it.” But he’s optimistic that the JAM protocol, and the changes it introduces, will help open things up. “JAM, I think, is going to be evolutionary, transformational for all of blockchain,” he says. He also sees room for improvement in how onchain governance and treasury systems operate. “You just have this pot of money saying, ‘Come and spend me.’ That’s not attractive to top-tier partners.” Instead, he suggests having more targeted initiatives: “We want to have these things done… and then put them out for bid. And maybe these bids will be public, maybe they won’t.” A Risky Bet, But a Thoughtful One Mark acknowledges that concentrating a fund on one ecosystem isn’t typical. “Going all-in is always a risky bet,” he says. But for him, conviction outweighs risk. “The first principles approach, the purpose is functionality, usability… and now with JAM and Hub, we think Polkadot is well-positioned,” he says. For Mark, crypto is less about price movements than building real infrastructure that improves the way systems work. That’s the lens through which he evaluates investments, and that’s why he’s staying focused on Polkadot, even when others are looking elsewhere.

@alacheng· 20 days agoJAM是2.0之后，就是正在加速研发的，超过30多个团队，不同编程语言，不同开发团队来实现分散的JAM客户端（基于JAM灰皮书协议来实现的）。 最早的ETH，是所有交易，要所有验证人一起验证一遍（这一部分其实可以看看以太坊黄皮书，还有一个更好的解读版本https://t.co/eh8F7R2K5Y），才能把状态变成最终确认上链的共享状态。 L2是让链下一个更小的子集进行计算，通过两种方式，一种L2是欺诈证明（发现有欺诈后重复执行交易代码，来验证），另一种L2是zk证明，无需重复计算，但需要用zk的比较贵的GPU来生成证明，链上只是验证证明，而无需重复执行之前的交易转化函数代码。 早先的 @Polkadot 1.0 采用的是一种叫ELVES算法，不像ETH的欺诈算法，被动验证，而是采用概率类型的算法主动验证。@polkadot 2.0 时 验证集，已经被包装成一种叫Core的概念，core本质上是验证集中的子集，2.0支持Agile Coretime ，也就是动态使用core，1.0一个链只能用一个Core，2.0即将上线后支持Agile Coretime，也就是一个链根据需求可以动态使用coretime（验证子集数量），从而提升系统的服务负载。 那JAM则是在上面这些想法上基础演化，出现了这么多zk，op，智能合约，甚至普通的web2类无状态应用，是否能近一步抽象服务好适应这些不同的应用模型呢，并且让他们之间可组合交互。所以JAM是在这个基础之上近一步做了抽象。 - 各种不同的 L2/平行链的东西现在被称为 服务 - 区块/交易的东西现在被称为工作项或工作包 - 工作项属于服务，而工作包是一组工作项 - 服务由三个入口点描述，其中两个是 fn refine() 和 fn accumulated - 这两个入口点的名称正是该协议被称为 JAM 的原因：连接累积机 (Join Accumulate Machine)。连接 (Join) 指的是 fn refine()，所有 Polkadot 核心都会为不同的服务并行执行大量工作。连接是指将数据提炼成一个较小的子集，然后传递到下一个阶段。 - 累积是指将上述所有操作的结果累积到主 JAM 状态 - 不同形态的服务被支持（op rollups，zkrollups，平行链，无状态应用，智能合约） ETH时代是共享状态的单列状态机， @polkadot 1.0 时代是可互操作的概率分片机。 @polkadot 2.0时代 是Agile Coretime 机。 JAM时代则是Join Accumulate Machine （JAM) 还有好多细节特性，这里只做了我理解到信息同步，更深入的了解为什么，JAM可以做到持续运行的程序，而无需通过交易来调起程序，这类特性未来和DEFI结合会产生出什么新模式产品？为什么JAM可以做到运行非状态类应用，比如JAM DOOM. 具体见视频： https://t.co/SqobvPjBW9 学习资料： https://t.co/hrtnM0BlkR https://t.co/nkYlXAPz0t

Moonbeam, Mythos, and Peaq are three examples of very different parachain with positive momentum during the slow period. Maybe this is what true decentralization looks like: not all parts of the ecosystem always growing in lockstep, but different pieces pulsing at different times. Some expand, some contract, but the whole keeps moving forward.

And now you’re here for the last-min CTA before Season 1 ends (~6h left), if you wanna keep the players you played with. So what went down in first season of FIFA Rivals on Polkadot? TL;DR: the retention loop worked on me. I played every day. Ended up in "Diamond I" rank where the struggle began. Most games became draws, ending in penalties. Everyone’s got epic or legendary at that point, so every attack was a goal threat. I started tackling more, got better at defending, and started winning more again. Still, this last week was the only stretch where I lowkey lost the flair. So my win rate dropped from 89% to 82%. Now we’re heading into the Adidas x FIFA season. But if you wanna own your squad from this season, time to mint. > Gotta upgrade them to 5 stars -> can cost lots of in-game cash > Then spend 25 vouchers to mint You won’t have enough, so the game will ask: use gems. (15 vouchers = 50 gems, iirc) After that, you'll see your items in your Mythical acct inventory along with the fragments you've collected. Do it now. See you next season.

@helloSQD· about 1 month agoSQD: Our 5-Year Evolution Everyone always asks when SQD will moon, but no one asks how did SQD even start? Like any big journey, it started with a niche obsession by one of the protagonists. Act 1: The Meeting. Despite much of his time being consumed by research for his PhD studies, @dizhel always found time to spend on crypto forums, quickly realizing the potential of the technology. He was convinced to the point of being willing to quit his math PhD. In the end, he didn’t, but became a Messari community analyst on the side. After traveling to DAppCon, one encounter led to another, and after an evening on the roofs over Berlin, he met @i_1337_i, who ended up offering him a job. Act 2: Trials and Tribulations Unfortunately, this first collaboration did not result in a revolution but was torn apart by another crypto winter, leading our Co-Founders to part ways. Undeterred by the cold, both remained in the crypto space. Dmitry joined a video streaming startup in the Polkadot ecosystem and, as part of the indexing team, quickly stumbled across a major problem: accessing blockchain data is hard. His MVP wins the infra track at the Web3 Foundation hackathon. After reconnecting with MF, they both officially established Subsquid Labs, raising their seed round with 80% marketshare in the Polkadot ecosystem and an ambitious whitepaper powered by hard math. Act 3: From Underdog to Established Since establishing the company, SQD (formerly Subsquid) has been on a steady growth trajectory, expanding the engineering team, increasing the network size, and gradually establishing ourselves as a serious contender in the blockchain data access space. We went from just a little squid to having partnered with the Deutsche Telekom, integrations with Google Cloud, and powering the backend of PancakeSwap and other million-user apps. But we’re far from done.
