Most people fundamentally misunderstand stablecoins They think of specific use cases: e-commerce, remittances, cross-border payments, DeFi, etc But it’s more fundamental than that Stablecoins are a backend upgrade to the dollar itself Bringing the cash-like qualities of immediate finality and bearer-asset control to the internet itself This is more than a 10x upgrade: - Instant, irreversible settlement: no multi-day settlement delays or chargebacks, removes unimaginable amounts of backend friction - Global accessibility: anyone with an internet connection can send / receive value to any one else instantly, creating growing network effects - Always-on availability: dollars move at the speed of the internet, 24/7/365, no holiday or banking hours preventing transfers - Near-zero fees: transfers cost a fraction of a cent as blockchains become increasingly commoditized in terms of throughput and speed - Self custody management: dollar-denominated assets can be held outside of any financial institution, by both humans and AI systems - System interoperability: any wallet can transfer value to any other wallet or any application, eliminating system fragmentation or walled gardens - Onchain composability: natively interact with any smart contracts, providing access to autonomous financial service protocols (yield, loans, leverage, etc) - Enhanced programability: any combination of ‘if/then’ logic flows can be codified into the stablecoin itself, enabling real-time salary streaming, digital escrow, conditional royalties, etc - Transparent auditability: real-time proof of funds and flows, frictionless compliance automation and regulatory reporting — With the GENUIS bill soon being signed into law, clear regulations around the issuance of stablecoins in the U.S. is coming This will not only unlock the floodgate of institutions waiting on the sidelines to issue their own stablecoins, but standardize what a “stablecoin” actually is In effect, all U.S. stablecoins become largely commoditized—each conforming to same reserve requirements, consumer protections, risk controls, compliance, federal oversight, etc The primary difference between stablecoins then becomes simply distribution (how many people hold it) and integrations (what you can do with it) But even for the end-users, this complexity will be abstracted away as stablecoins can be instantly converted into any other stablecoin upon receipt by another wallet or app From a users’ perspective, they will use the same banking and FinTech applications they always have, just now with instant, global, and programmable payments Stablecoins are not a crypto use case, they are the new digital dollar
RT @PragmaticMonkey: And we are live 🔥 After almost 10 months grinding, the first 100% on-chain orderbook DEX on THORChain's App Layer, opening the floodgate to DeFi with native assets from all connected chains! Big milestone, an this is just the beginning. Volumes will start scaling once we add bluechip tokens next, and more advanced market making strategies, and more killer features. Thanks everyone for having supported us through all the ups and downs since we embarked on this journey last Summer, now we start the fun part ❤️

RT @DasYoungy: The upgrade was executed this morning. ``` "bytecode_version": 7, "compilation_metadata": { "unstable": false, "compiler_version": "2.0", "language_version": "2.1" } ``` To the Aptos Move devs community, thank you for bearing with us in the last month, testing against testnet, providing the feedback and reporting issues 🙏. This would not have been possible without you all. The Move 2 floodgate is now lifted. Let's Move!

As we soon close out 2024, here are my personal Top 3 2025 Predictions for the crypto industry: 1. Bitcoin structured products will hit the market in 2025 with at least $5 billion in assets, driving mainstream adoption within wealth management. The cold, hard truth is that most private wealth managers and institutions remain hesitant about taking on directional Bitcoin exposure. I predict that buffered notes, principal-protection ETFs, and similar instruments will unlock a floodgate of new demand, giving institutions access to Bitcoin’s volatility at the price they deserve, customized to their own preferences. 2. Maple Finance’s TVL (~$535M as of writing) will surpass BlackRock’s BUIDL. I hold an unapologetic view that decentralized markets, which enable novel financial primitives, will see adoption faster than “security tokenization” projects retrofitting to legacy infrastructure. Institutional-grade, crypto-asset-backed decentralized lending like @maplefinance remains the most promising near-term category winner, bolstered by potential regulatory tailwinds. 3. A new decentralized stablecoin will emerge, backed by a decentralized strategic reserve. Bitcoin’s role as a reserve asset is now undeniable, spanning corporate balance sheets to nation-states. However, a utopian consensus among crypto-natives is that the ideal reserve must be decentralized free from sovereign whims at all costs in addition to being backed by crypto collaterals. Despite the scars left by LUNA, I predict a more robust effort will rise, built with heightened transparency and leveraging the long-awaited arrival of cryptographic proofs. I have some exemplary candidates in mind that can and will lead the way (cc @samkazemian @LucaProsperi)
Department of Government Efficiency / $DOGE looks primed for the next leg up 👀️️️️️️ the resilience and strength this has shown despite having rallied 20x in a month has been impressive to see and there are several reasons it likely goes much higher from here: 1. dogecoin is currently exploding aggressively off the back of the 'Department of Government Efficiency' narrative recently - it added an extra $47 BILLION+ in market cap in the past few weeks alone (!!) - do you think the memecoin named after that very department stays at sub $200m levels for long? 2. 'Department of Government Efficiency' (D.O.G.E) is the purest dogecoin beta at this point of the cycle - Dogecoin is currently at $62.4 billion marketcap while D.O.G.E is at $200 million market cap. it seems there is a lot of aggressive upwards repricing underway tbh! - the idea of 'D.O.G.E being the next DOGE' isn't as farfetched as it might seem, or at least it is very memeable! 3. on-chain metrics look really good for D.O.G.E: - it has spent the greater part of this month being the #1 or #2 most traded token on-chain on Ethereum - it is rapidly gaining new holders, to the tune of 1,000+ new holders per day on peak days, which is a pretty big deal on the ETH chain - it continues to make new ATHs despite large wallets offloading their holding. this is ensuring much better distribution for the token while also showing that there is strong and clear demand for it 4. several degen buddies are telling me that their normie friends are starting to discover and buy D.O.G.E: - normies are discovering it through Google search when they search for topics related to Elon and/or Trump and crypto. this will only accelerate as crypto goes more mainstream with $BTC making new ATHs daily and dogecoin exploding recently - normies like it as it immediately clicked and is quite memeable since it is just 'D.O.G.E' and based off one of the most hyped narrative of this era 5. a lot of people are sidelined on this and waiting for a dip to get in: - i'm saying this based on chatter and sentiments i'm keeping track of in over a dozen alpha/degen groups i'm in - the level of sidelined energy i'm seeing around D.O.G.E is the highest i've seen of any new on-chain token i've kept tabs on recently tbh 6. Elon and Trump will continue to meme this narrative, which will result in more mindshare and attention for the token 7. the actual department is going to be launched now since Trump has been elected: - the launch of the department is going to be one of the biggest catalysts for the token - the launch of the department will result in a floodgate of press coverage being opened for the narrative and the memecoin - after the launch of the department, the media is going to spend the next 4 years of Trump's admin talking about it as they tend to do with Elon and/or Trump, except this time it is both Elon and Trump - I can already imagine the headlines: 'Elon's Department of Government Efficiency (D.O.G.E) has fired 50% of US government workers in an unprecedented move', 'Elon's Department of Government Efficiency just reduced the US government debt by $X trillion', etc 8. it is very unique and different from the animal meta which many are growing tired of: - it's not a dog, or cat, or frog, or hippo, or squirrel. it is a literal government department of the USA: the Department of Government Efficiency! - D.O.G.E = DOGE i think this memecoin will run much farther than many anticipate, and in hindsight many would realize that it is still very early at these levels

We have a new podcast episode with @m2jr Mike is a Silicon Valley OG from his time in SGI to being a part of investing many iconic companies through Floodgate. He and I have worked together a bunch so this was a lot of fun for @aarthir and me to record on @aarthisrirampod Some topics we covered --- "Pattern breakers" - how the unexpected success of Twitch made Mike go back to first principles to understand what makes startups work --- Mike's three attributes for what makes a great company (I won't spoil it here) --- Why @elonmusk's Cyber Truck is a cool, bold vision on many levels. --- The SV vibe shift around free speech and politics. Why the Overton window has shifted on multiple topics --- Mike's advice for first time fund managers. Mike's a godo friend and this felt more like a conversation we have around dinner. The video is below but I have added links to the Youtube and site below with transcript.
PATTERN BREAKERS BOOK - Available now for pre-order Beginning today, my forthcoming book Pattern Breakers, written with Peter Ziebelman, is available for pre-order. I’ve been working on this for quite awhile, and I’m so excited that it’s finally ready for prime time. About 10 years ago, I started to notice that a substantial portion of our exit profits at Floodgate were coming from companies that pivoted significantly from the original idea I had funded. Even more confusing to me was that a lot of the companies that succeeded were chaotic and disorganized, while many of those that failed would have been a case study in how to build a startup the right way… except that they failed. I felt uneasy and wondered if there was something deeper going on or if I was just a lucky fool and should retire before I got exposed. This began a 4+ year rabbit hole of exploration, followed by another many years collaborating with my co-author, Peter Ziebelman from the Stanford Graduate School of Business. Patter Breakers is the result of this combined decade of effort. It contains our perspective on why some startups radically change the future—and what founders today can do to increase their odds of achieving outlier success. You can pre-order now wherever you get books online. You can also get a 30% discount and signed copy if you order on Porchlight before May 31. I’m incredibly grateful to everyone who has engaged with this project in various ways over the years. There is so much more to understand about what it takes to start something extraordinary. I can’t wait to hear your thoughts.
