RT @drakefjustin: I recently became an advisor to the EigenFoundation. I feel the community deserves transparency so here is an extended disclosure :) 1) The advisorship comes with a significant EIGEN token incentive which could easily be worth more than the combined value of all my other assets (mostly ETH). We're talking millions of dollars of tokens vesting over 3 years. 2) I pledge to reinject all advisorship proceeds towards worthy projects within the Ethereum ecosystem, either as investments or donations. I also stand ready to end the advisorship at any time, e.g. should EigenLayer go in a direction I deem to be against Ethereum's interests. 3) I am picky with advisorships (having likely turned down over 100 so far) and I didn't accept the EigenFoundation advisorship lightly. Sreeram first talked about an advisorship in March 2023 and the whole process took discussions over one year. 4) The advisorship happened on the condition that my mandate be limited to researching restaking risks and that I not be included on marketing material. 5) Given my focus on restaking risks you can expect my default public stance to continue to lean critical of EigenLayer. I will try to make my criticism constructive, advocating for mitigations to risks like the erosion of solo validators and the intersubjective overloading of Ethereum consensus. 6) By being an advisor I hope to have a front-row seat to restaking issues and steer EigenLayer from within. As a researcher I feel I did too little too late with regard to liquid staking. This is an opportunity to not repeat the mistake with restaking. 7) Competing restaking platforms provide healthy diversity and I will gladly share insights and bounce ideas with competitors like Karak and Symbiotic. 8) Some people may ask if EigenLayer is trying to systematically "bribe" or "corrupt" the EF. Nowadays the EF is a large organisation with 300+ people. To my knowledge 3 EFers have a formal relationship with EigenLayer entities: one as an early EigenLabs investor, and two as recent EigenFoundation advisors. EFers are some of the highest integrity people I know and I don't see the 1% of EFers formally involved with EigenLayer compromising their morals. 9) Having interacted a bunch with Sreeram I believe he is in our space for all the goods reasons. He has a razor sharp mind and a genuine desire to build something meaningful—what he calls the "Open Verifiable Digital Commons". Sreeram's outstanding character was key to accepting the advisorship. 10) I want to highlight that I'm advising in an individual capacity. This is more than just a legal detail: I live my work life first and foremost as an Ethereum researcher, not as an EF researcher. I try to stay a free and independent thinker and serve the interests of Ethereum even if it sometimes means breaking the mould of expectations that comes with being an EF researcher. 11) I do acknowledge that accepting the EigenFoundation advisorship inevitably comes with downside risk beyond my personal reputation. I hope the above shows that it is at least a considered move with calculated risks. I shared the above disclosure with additional restaking thoughts at https://t.co/hkS6ZxsXPl

RT @oldbooksguy: 10 concepts (from Ancient Rome) that explain the modern world: 1. The Tacitus Razor: “If you want to know who controls you, see who you’re not allowed to criticize.” This is how comedians accidently reveal a society's hierarchy—they call everyone naked, and soon discover who the king is. 2. The Slavery Syndrome. Roman historian Sallust: “Few men desire liberty; most men wish only for a just master.” Genuine liberty means making decisions 24/7; parsing right from wrong; solving pesky dilemmas using nothing but one’s own mind. Liberty is thus too cognitively taxing for most…people would rather outsource their agency. 3. The Polybius Warning: 2nd century B.C. historian Polybius warned that a falling birthrate precedes civilizational collapse. Fewer births mean men and women have checked out. Sloth grows, spiritual concerns are replaced by material ones, and population falls. Polybius believed the Greek civilization fell due to its “low birth rate…” 4. The Pliny Principle: Rene Descartes pinned bodily existence onto the mind—“I think, therefore I am”—but Ancient Rome’s magistrate, Pliny the Younger, said it was the other way around: “It is wonderful how the mind is stirred and quickened into activity by brisk bodily exercise.” Only physical exertion leads to healthy mental activity… 5. The Uses of Folly. Roman historian Herodotus: “If a man insisted always on being serious, and never allowed himself a bit of fun and relaxation, he would go mad.” Fun is your brain stretching, dancing, moving without the shackles of logic. You need it. Lesson: Combine monumental sincerity with...some trolling. 6. The Vitruvius Rule: Modern architects love asymmetrical structures, but Ancient Roman architect Vitruvius said a building out of proportions is like a deformed body. Nature herself “composed the human body” and the rest of creation using “due proportions.” The Vitruvius Rule: No symmetry? Off to cemetery. 7. The Tyranny of Laws: More laws don’t mean a more just society. Tacitus: “The more numerous the laws, the more corrupt the government.” Make a million laws and you can catch anyone for anything, anytime you want. 8. The Cassius Hypothesis: Historian Cassius wrote that while monarchy needed only one man to make the right decision, democracy needed millions. Which one is more likely to succeed? No wonder, Cassius wrote, that “successes have always been greater and more frequent under kings than under popular rule…” 9. The Livy Effect: Historian Livy lived through the Roman Civil War and discovered the butterfly effect 2000 years before the chaos theorists: “Events of great consequence often spring from trifling circumstances.” Politics, economics, human decisions, ideas…they form one giant mesh of life, and tiny acts can snowball. 10. The Juvenal Principle: “Give them bread and circuses and they will never revolt.” Roman poet Juvenal believed a “long peace” was as evil as a war. The modern world needs to heed Juvenal's warning against luxury. To let “bread and circuses” sedate us into inaction is to betray our very soul...

RT @george__mack: What ideas are underpriced in 2024? Here's my list: 1. Subprime audience - A creator optimising for size of audience and ending up with a junk audience. They end up producing content they themselves wouldn’t consume. 2. The forgetting paradox - Wordle outperformed every headline in society's consciousness for 2022. All the news everyone was worried outlasted by a novelty game... that has now faded away. We forget how much we forget because we've forgotten it. Everyone will move onto the next current thing... And forget how enraged they were about the previous current thing. 3. The Golden Law of the Internet - If you run enough A/B tests, you’ll end up with a porn site. Always have some brand guidelines you won't compromise on. 4. Post content clarity - Pull up your YouTube. Click on history. I did this and found I regretted 75% of the content I consumed. 5. Asch Negative - Would someone fail to conform in a conformity test? If so, they are Asch Negative. (Incredible idea from Eric Weinstein). 6. Treadmill Friends - Friends that leave you with so much energy after seeing them you need to run on a treadmill. The opposite are people that leave you so drained you to have to life on a sofa afterwards: Sofa friends. 7. Dopamine Self, Cortisol Self, Serotonin Self - This is pure bro science... But having these 3 selves as a naming convention is really useful. Need to get into dopamine self? Play agressive hip-hop + drink caffeine. Need to get into serotonin self? Play deep house + breathe deeply. Need to get into cortisol self? Don't sleep and refresh email. 8. Resting smile face - A large % of happiness is moving from resting serious face to resting smiling face... Because this idea is so simple, it's neglected. Try it. 9. Love bombs - If you have an awesome interaction with a service worker, drop them a tip that makes you feel a bit uncomfortable. When you zoom out 5 years later, it's one of the highest ROI memory dividends in your mental checking account. 10. Bragging Razor - If someone brags about their success or happiness, assume it’s half what they claim If someone downplays their success or happiness, assume it’s double what they claim 11. The Instagram Sausage Factory - When you see a photo of an influencer looking attractive on Instagram -- assume there are 99 worse variations of that photo you haven't seen. They just picked the best one. Zoom out and see how the sausage is made. 12. Hidden metrics vs Visible metrics - Money is a visible metric. Clear score and multi-player going up and down. Time with family or peace of mind is a hidden metric. It's easy to spend so much time optimising for visible metrics... Because they are visible. The hidden metrics only become visible when it's too late... They hit 0. Someone dies or lose your sanity. 13. Only the irrational behaviour survives - If you study the biographies of the greats or attend the funerals of people you care about — the normal rational behavior is never mentioned. It’s filled with stories that make the individual unique. It’s all the times they broke out of the median distribution of human behavior. If you want to create behavioral assets that tell stories for you in the future, you have to pay the price of appearing weird in the present moment. Your personal brand is defined by your weirdness, eccentricities, and irrational behavior. 3am. Mega post. Gotta be honest. World and financial markets are in an extremely weird spot right now. Taking your eye off the ball even for a second can wreck you here. Keep your mind beyond clean. Keep your vigilance on a full court press. Try incredibly cringey boyscout hard at what your doing. Be the over enthusiastic student. MASTER your trade. Be the best and hardest working at it you know. Keep a clear mind so you can take well thought out big risks. Live WELL infinitely below your means so you can take those risk without fear. Destroy your ego so that your decisions that could lead to huge gain are never influenced by unreasonable insecurity or fear of being vulnerable. There's no clear answer on what will happen, but being sharp as a razor, extremely skilled and having a financial lifestyle that keeps stress to zero WITH ability to take risks IS your absolute 1000% best bet. I strongly feel there's gonna be a handful of moments (good and bad) where you will blink n the lines of finance & money completely change. We will see the biggest wealth making chances ever WITH some of the most brutal wealth destruction ever. Its nigh impossible to call which buckets will be the winners and losers right now. It sounds so incredibly self help guru lame, but being the absolute best version of you with as MUCH focus as possible is your absolute best bet. A period of slowness here could cause lapses in judgment that leave you sidelined to huge opportunities or completely over exposed to a brutal right hook. Stay boyscout try hard serious. I feel the next few years will be historic.
Got a good reminder today from my friend @ShaneAParrish about 'Hanlon’s Razor', which is a useful mental model which can be best summarized as "Never attribute to malice that which can be adequately explained by neglect"

Less than 100 Black women have raised more than $1 million in venture funding. She's one of them. This is the story of how Karen Young quit her job, won $180K at a pitch competition, raised $3M, and made it all the way into Sephora.Karen is the founder & CEO of OUI the People, a body care brand that's redefining beauty.Today, OUI the People is sold at 300+ Sephora locations. But it wasn’t that long ago that Karen was running OUI from her kitchen table, fulfilling orders in the evenings and on weekends. So how did she get there?Let's dive in...Karen started the brand the same way most entrepreneurs get started: to solve her own problem. She noticed that she would very easily get ingrown hairs and razor burn from traditional razors. After talking to other women, Karen realized many were experiencing the same issues.Talk to potential customers: ✔️Validate your idea: ✔️✔️Here's what she did next:“I sourced a razor from Germany and tried it out in different lengths and weights. Then, I gave a few of them out and asked people what was working for them."Questions like:- Which type of blade gave them the best results?- What was the right length for the handle?- Which weight felt the best in someone's hand? After gathering enough customer feedback, Karen was ready to develop her prototype. The only problem? 👀She needed funding.Well, guess what?!At the same time, WeWork announced a pitch competition. Perfect!Karen brought her sample, delivered the best pitch of the night, and won!!!The total amount? $180KKaren used that funding to produce the first batch of her "rose gold razor," which sold out in days.Karen took the funding from WeWork along with her sales data and proceeded to close a $750,000 round. Her formula:Raise money.Prove demand for a new product.Repeat.Fast forward to 2022, the brand closed its largest round yet, the brand closed its largest round yet: $3,000,000!!!This catapulted Young and her brand to new heights. She expanded her product line to shave gels, body oils, and more.Today, OUI the People is sold at 300+ Sephora locations. This week, Karen is launching her popular featherweight body gloss in a new Cedarwood scent. Wish her all the best in the comments below!3 takeaways for entrepreneurs:1) Validate your idea. Karen sourced a sample from Germany and asked people for feedback. After she got an overwhelming response, she went all-in 👏2) Find a gap in the market. Karen recognized an untapped market opportunity in the beauty space. The best way to find business ideas is to pick an industry you have experience in & find a way to solve a problem from customers.3) Demonstrate demand: When raising money, investors want to see that you have traction. Karen took a clever step-by-step approach, showing demand for her products to secure more funding.Want to get business advice from a beauty industry expert? The national parties are always going to suck. It’s just how the game is set up, and that’s a good thing. There is no way for both of them to have a platform that everyone agrees with because they are fighting for control. All the issues that they are fighting over are the ones that split the electorate. So the result in a healthy competitive democracy is always a razor thin split between left and right parties and 50% are gonna be unhappy no matter who wins. But, not all is lost. They can still govern if the people who end up elected have their head on straight. Primaries, down ballot elections, state elections, all these things matter more than you think. Good governance is going to come from an accumulation of small victories.

This is the guy who helped MrBeast launch "Feastables".Here's why Ben Acott is a marketing genius 👇Ben is the CEO of Magnetic Labs, a venture studio & fund that builds iconic brands alongside the world's most influential creators, celebrities, and athletes. He worked directly with MrBeast launching and scaling Feastables as the brand's CMO.He also scaled Manscaped, a men's grooming brand, to $300M in annual sales via e-commerce.He's a board member, advisor, and investor to 40+ brands including JuneShine, the most popular hard kombucha brand.Feastables, Manscaped, JuneShine, ... what do these brands have in common? They all:- Got extremely creative with their marketing strategy- Leaned in on creator marketing- Created a strong community of loyal fansLet's dive into each...FeastablesMrBeast built a large community of loyal fans before launching "Feastables". He has singlehandedly created a new playbook for creator-led brands. The @Feastables marketing team named one of the candy bars "Deez Nuts", but had to change the name after being sued by a Florida-based company Dee's Nuts. The team turned a "loss" into a huge marketing opportunity, as Jimmy regularly brings the lawsuit up in his videos. His loyal fans still refer to the candy bar as "Deez Nuts" even though he legally can't, proving how strong his community is.Jimmy Donaldson (aka @MrBeast) understands the power of distribution like no one else.Manscaped@manscaped is the first brand to focus on men’s below-the-waist grooming, with an electric razor for "down there". Let's be real, promoting this type of product can be awkward. The marketing team did an incredible job at embracing this AND taking risks along the way. For example, by naming their electric shaver "The Lawn Mower".The startup is backed by Channing Tatum, so they heavily leaned into leveraging celebrity brands.JuneShineThe @JuneShineCo marketing team regularly hosts special events at their tasting rooms including new flavor launch parties with celebrity collaborators. The Marketing team did an excellent job leveraging these physical tasting rooms to increase online sales. The brand also strategically selected investors that would act as brand ambassadors, including musical artist Diplo, comedian Whitney Cummings, YouTube star Cody Ko, and U.S. Women’s National Team soccer players Ashlyn Harris and Ali Krieger.Takeaways:1) Get extremely creative with your marketing2) Build a strong community of loyal fans3) Focus on partnerships with creators and influencersWant to get feedback on your marketing strategy? The most hilarious part about this Timecoin nonsense is that there is an actual altcoin (possibly the first real altcoin) called Timekoin, that was launched by knightmb (who, most famously, was quite high up on the Bitcoin richlist in the early 2010s having held 371 000 BTC). It's always been a bit of a weird project, written in PHP with mysql as its datastore for the chain. Here's the thing...it was worked on and discussed on Bitcointalk at length in 2010 when Satoshi was still around (https://t.co/hDg3Dwdqlq). The creator of Timekoin (knightmb) interacted with Satoshi a bunch on the forum (https://t.co/l4Vt8REUO8 for eg.) - and Satoshi even had multiple private conversations with knightmb on Bitcointalk (see: https://t.co/B5Sy6dQIgU where knightmb makes it clear that he did not buy the notion that Craig Wright is Satoshi in 2015 already). Now let's be logical: if Satoshi *had* previously called Bitcoin "Timecoin", and had shown a BUNCH of people the Timecoin whitepaper etc., then surely he would have said something to knightmb? Maybe not publicly, but surely in private he would have suggested that he use a different name so as not to cause confusion. It is crazy to believe that Satoshi would have just let this slide.Occam's Razor applies, and we can conclude that Satoshi never called Bitcoin "Timecoin" in any previous iteration, and that Craig Wright is a scammer and a fraud.

NEW: The Texas Military Department confirms the TX National Guard has seized control of Shelby Park in Eagle Pass (city property where mass illegal crossings are), and is restricting Border Patrol from accessing the area, saying the Feds “perpetuate illegal crossings”. This is the area where Border Patrol has been cutting TX razor wire. Razor wire and fences are now deployed to block the area off from the public and federal government. Attached video is from our crew on the ground this morning as they began blocking it off. You can expect DOJ to sue Texas over this. Texas Military Department statement: “The Texas National Guard has maintained a presence with security points and temporary barrier in Shelby Park since 2021. The current posture is to prepare for future illegal immigrant surges and to restrict access to organizations that perpetuate illegal immigrant crossings in the park and greater Eagle Pass area.”I reached out to CBP/Border Patrol in the sector for comment hours ago - no response yet.
