The delivery of a given model is determined by the underlying data involved, and that’s why it’s extremely important that the data used to train the model is open and transparent. The easiest way to achieve this is to open-source the database like @grok did several days ago. Data, also, isn’t created and processed at no cost - actual human beings create data and help process it (either through labor-heavy manners like labeling or code-oriented manners like data standardization). Therefore, when utilizing such data for building a model, proper rewards should be distributed to any data contributors. There are debates on how these distributions might work, but one of the most likely solutions is through Web3 and decentralized technologies. @sandeepnailwal and @sentient_agi seem to be working on this (correct me if I’m wrong tho). And @rss3_ as well. 𝟮. 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 Whether you are training for natural language processing or computer vision, a specific architecture is necessary - it basically tells how the data should be used in order to create the desired model. A typical training process involves initial training, tuning, evaluation, fine-tuning, and iteration. To ensure that the training process is open, the involved algorithms should be open and transparent. For example, a team at @google, including the later @NEARProtocol founder @ilblackdragon, first proposed the Transformer architecture, and subsequently open-sourced models trained based on it. This act accelerated the boom of AI as it is recognized today. Those who handle the training should be rewarded - this is generally the case as the training team is generally the core team for building the model. However, proper rewards should be distributed to those who open-sourced the algorithm as well to further incentivize future algorithms to be kept open. 𝟯. 𝗗𝗲𝗽𝗹𝗼𝘆𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 When a model is well trained, it needs to be deployed to serve. The deployment process is quite simple - the model is put on a server for availability. While it’s extremely challenging to deploy in a completely open and transparent way, a good practice is to write detailed deployment procedures for future devs to replicate the process - this brings trust to its maximum under current technical constraints. 𝟰. 𝗔𝗽𝗽𝗹𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 The application users interact with is the final piece. The way most of these applications work is to build a frontend client, either web or mobile, together with an app server to store sessions and historical data related to every user. This traditional way of building such application does bring, to some extent, privacy concerns. One way to solve this is to build such application with a local-first approach, where all user-related data is stored in the local device (but this does negatively affect device interoperability). Another possible solution is to build such application with encryption - similar to what Signal does to text messaging. 𝟱. 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗰𝗹𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 With AI developing much faster, models are supposed to do much more to the world. The scope of which AI could help with and the degree of which AI could be involved are quickly increasing. Though right now, dangers have not been spotted enough by the human society, they are certainly coming if people keep developing in closed ways - we don’t want to start working on this until it’s too late. 🔥This is crazy, but we have achieved what many will consider as a ‘really intelligent and capable system’ without using GPT-4/OpenAI. In our research and experiments at @HyperspaceAI, we were able to get GPT-4 comparable results using a complex distributed system which spanned models from @MistralAI, local consumer devices, and @GroqInc. In the days ahead, we will be publishing a lot more about it alongwith making a developer-friendly platform available to use it out-of-the-box. The cat is out of the bag though. The major disruption event is here. The world does not need or have a sole dependency on OpenAI anymore for uber-intelligence: a swarm of agents running intelligently on a distributed network and making use of the fastest AI infrastructure and the most breakthrough open models, can succeed. This was intuition and theory before, but we know it now. Since we also already have the largest deployment of Mistral models on a consumer peer-to-peer network (over 5000 nodes so far), we are ready for madness. We will continuously grow this network, incentivize and secure nodes using @EigenLayer in the days ahead. The more this distributed network grows, the more smarter, cheaper and abundant it becomes.
