@vegaprotocol· 10 months agoThis is a reminder that following the community vote to suspend the Vega network, withdrawals from the Vega bridge may become impossible. Use https://t.co/eIButcd4OE to withdraw your balances before October 27th 2024. After this date, validators will no longer have an incentive to run their nodes and, while they may choose to continue doing so, it is expected that the Vega chain may cease operations at any point from the 27th October. Users should ensure all balances are withdrawn from the Vega network, including both the Vega network step and the Ethereum/Arbitrum “completion” step before validator rewards are discontinued. Note that by now all locked rewards earned prior to the suspension of markets on 10th September have unlocked and vested so can be withdrawn at any time. Please remember; if/when the validators stop running the network there is nothing the project team can do to recover your funds.

The chain is expected to cease operations after a “ramp-down” period, during which validators are incentivised to maintain node operations, allowing users to withdraw their funds from the network. Although voters overwhelmingly supported this proposal, it was not enacted due to a large number of voters unstaking their VEGA tokens before the end of the voting period. See the forum update: https://t.co/QoSng30qyd As a protective measure, the Vega protocol requires voters’ tokens to be staked at the end of the voting period for their votes to count. In this case, the removal of staked tokens dropped the total votes below the required participation threshold. Given that the majority of on-chain votes were supportive, and that almost all conversations we’ve had with token holders have also been supportive of this proposal, it has been resubmitted. You now have until 11:00 CEST on Tuesday, 10th September, to vote on the resubmitted proposal. Please ensure that your tokens remain staked at least until that time for your vote to count. We @vegaprotocol are here because we see the value of blockchains to extend the internet to provide everyone with the freedom to transact on their own terms: when, and how they need to. We are dedicated to our mission to build the abstractions and protocols needed for rapid, permissionless financial innovation *for the real world*. There’s much more work to do, and often too much of the wrong sort of noise, but this entirely user driven development is another step towards those goals and a reminder that at the core of the Vega community are people who share our vision and are excited to push defi forwards with the tools we’ve built and open sourced for the world to use.

For now you need a market maker to make it useful, but vAMM liquidity is coming soon, then you can truly create a market with little more than an idea!

@vegaprotocol· about 1 year agoLastly, the latest protocol release network includes a new asset bridge to Arbitrum. This feature was prioritised to address community feedback regarding the cost of deposits and withdrawals on Ethereum mainnet: https://t.co/VqNFoyEAAN Since Arbitrum and Ethereum ERC20s are different assets, and the Vega chain does not yet support burning host chain assets and issuing a native stablecoin in the deposit process, the community needs to decide how the new bridge will be used to benefit from cheaper transactions. This means either markets need to settle with Arbitrum assets, or a spot market needs to be available to swap Arbitrum assets for Ethereum mainnet assets. Otherwise, markets settling with Ethereum assets will still require deposits and withdrawals to go through the more expensive Ethereum mainnet bridge.
