@litecoin· about 1 month agoRT @SatoshiLite: Here's my Coinbase lore. I first contacted Coinbase initially not about a job but, of course, to ask if they would support Litecoin. Olaf @zxocw responded and said they are Bitcoin-only for now as they have limited resources, which made a lot of sense. A few weeks later, my sister was looking for a job and I introduced her to Olaf. She wasn't super interested as she was thinking of starting her own startup. But my conversation with Olaf eventually led to him asking why don't I go in for an interview. At the time, I was working comfortably at Google, but Google had no interest in doing anything with crypto. So I decided why not. At my interview, @brian_armstrong and @FEhrsam asked me quite a few tough brain teasers and coding questions. They didn't know I could do brain teasers in my sleep. 😂 The interview quickly went from trying to test me to trying to sell me on Coinbase. It actually didn't take much to sell me. I get to work on crypto full time, working with super bright and talented people, and building a company that is trying to change the world of finance. Coinbase made me a decent offer, but the pay was a lot less than my pay at Google. I decided to negotiate for more salary instead of more stock, because I wanted Coinbase to at least match my Google salary of $150k. Until these 'official' descriptions are changed and show accuracy, it is not reliable. The below is actually from @coinbase believe it or not. The exchange where @SatoshiLite actually built the software engineering when the company was in its infancy. Coinbase, please change your description to accurately describe Litecoin to your users. If you'd like a template I'm sure the foundation can provide you one. That goes for any other exchanges, institutions, or services that have Litecoin provided as well.

Individuals in today's financial structure have limited power but no authority. That belongs to a cooperative of banks and governments. But fully decentralized ledgers that prioritize the authority and power of the individual provide strength in numbers never seen in history. Our problem now is that some who have a loud voice on some ledgers not only confuse the actual breadth of power, but lack of authority over others. It is not a combined effort they desire, nor is it positive harbinger of what is to come if continued. They hunger power through something that is not them. They desire total dominance because their beliefs and biases carved with the tools of others who sold them the idea tell them it cannot work without it. They tell you that your ledger has no power. That it has no authority. They will humiliate, dictate, and facilitate that message until you believe it or capitulate. Don't believe it. You have power and authority as an individual. As a fully decentralized ledger. If you believe in Litecoin, you are not retarded. You are not irrelevant. And you are certainly not powerless or without authority. Understand you have a choice. You have a voice. Use it.

At the time, most altcoins were flawed experiments — pre-mined, buggy, or outright scams. Litecoin was different. It followed the principles Bitcoin was built on: transparency, openness, and stability. Charlie Lee launched Litecoin publicly, announced it in advance, and gave the community time to prepare. It's a label that has stuck around for more than a decade, but the reality is that @Litecoin actually isn't a fork of Bitcoin -- in the blockchain sense. It may have been born from shared DNA, but it has charted its own course since 2011. To learn more about this, I interviewed David Schwartz (@DaddyCool1991) and Jay Milla from the Litecoin Foundation (@LTCFoundation) to gain their insights on the topic and it was illuminating. Litecoin was launched in 2011 by MIT alum Charlie Lee with a clear purpose: to complement Bitcoin, not compete. From the start, it positioned itself as the “digital silver” to Bitcoin’s gold, with faster block times and lower fees that make it more practical for everyday use. At the time, most altcoins were flawed experiments — pre-mined, buggy, or outright scams. Litecoin was different. It followed the principles Bitcoin was built on: transparency, openness, and stability. Charlie Lee launched Litecoin publicly, announced it in advance, and gave the community time to prepare. There was no VC money involved, no pre-sale, and no hidden allocation. The principles of fairness were upheld at all costs. That kind of transparency is rare in crypto, even today. Over the years, Litecoin earned a reputation as one of the most secure and resilient networks in the space. That kind of divergence between utility and valuation doesn’t happen often in this space. For long-term investors, it’s the kind of opportunity that stands out. And, it’s not just investors who are noticing. Even Bitcoiners who understand infrastructure are re-acknowledging Litecoin’s role in the space, especially after its implementation of MWEB. Put simply, Litecoin has delivered what most coins can’t: - 100% uptime - No pre-mine - No insiders - A clean, transparent launch - Real usage, liquidity, and global recognition thanks to its reliability Litecoin has also taken the lead in advancing Bitcoin-compatible tech. It implemented SegWit first, which enabled the first-ever Lightning Network transaction to take place on Litecoin. It integrated MimbleWimble Extension Blocks (MWEB), offering users a payments experience that more closely resembles cash. And now, several smart contract platforms are building on Litecoin for the same reasons: security, consistency, and longevity. People have called Litecoin a “test-bed” for Bitcoin, but that title doesn’t really hold up anymore — especially now that Litecoin’s network metrics are starting to approach Bitcoin’s. As Bitcoin shifts toward being a pure HODL asset and Litecoin continues to be used as actual money, the trend may not just continue, it might flip.
