@Devon_Eriksen_· 27 days agoAh, yes, the curation problem. To understand it, we have to have a long talk about Amazon. Amazon isn't killing the book industry. That oft-repeated allegation is completely and totally false. But it IS failing to save it. The practice at Amazon-the-large-conglomerate is have an empty chair present at every meeting, to serve as a reminder of who @JeffBezos calls "the most important person in the room". The customer. But tiny fragment of Amazon that is Amazon-the-bookseller has repeatedly failed to learn his intended lesson. You see, Amazon-the-bookseller thinks selling books is a solved problem. This is because Amazon sees the bookselling business from the perspective of Amazon-who-sells-books, not the perspective of people who like to read. An Amazon insider once told me, in all sincerity: "The book market is oversaturated. We have metrics, and we know how many unread pages people have on their Kindle devices, and what rate they read at. They have queues years long. There are no more books to be sold." This sounds superficially sensible from the perspective of a giant bookstore that sells every book in the universe, but it is wrong, wrong, wrong. The book market is not oversaturated. It is undersaturated. Less people are reading less books now. Men are barely reading at all. Why? Because they can't find anything they want to read. This is the curation problem. There are more books now than ever, but because tradpub is dying, and Amazon publishes anything, readers are now exposed directly to the slushpile. Publishers used to help readers solve the problem of what to read next by rejecting the bad and the mediocre. If you picked up a novel released by a major publishing house, it might not be to your taste, but you could be pretty sure it wasn't objectively awful. But around the same time that tradpub lost interest in what people want to read, and started publishing only what they thought people should read, Amazon started eating their lunch. Not a coincidence. But Amazon doesn't curate the slushpile. Why would it? It sells every book, ever. So why would it be interested in promoting some books over others? It gets paid regardless of which book readers buy. Amazon does not care which book you buy. Which means it doesn't care whether you buy the book you like. Which means, in turn, that it doesn't care whether you like the book you buy. In other words, Amazon-the-bookseller doesn't care about customer satisfaction. They consider that an author's responsibility. Amazon has replaced the publishers, but it does not see itself as a publisher, with any responsibility to curate, promote, or discriminate, but a neutral vendor. Amazon has been seduced by its own metrics. A metric, measures what is, and what has been. It will never tell you what could be. The book market is not saturated because it is not fixed-size. The number of people who want to read is not a fixed number. The rate at which they read books is not a fixed rate. Both these numbers are highly variable, and they are driven by one thing... customer satisfaction. Readers who can find books they love will read more books faster. The market is not a fixed size. The market can grow. But to grow the market, someone must solve the curation problem. Readers would benefit from this, but they are not in a position to do it. Authors would benefit from this, but they are not in a position to do it. Amazon would benefit from this, and they are. If Amazon were to realize that customer satisfaction matters to their bottom line, that it is in their interest to address the curation problem, just as the publishers they have replaced did, they could do it... easily. They aren't a publishing house, with experienced editors and wordsmiths who can tell the good from the bad. They do not have the ghosts of Gardner Dozois, Tom Dougherty, and Jim Baen on speed dial. They can't decide what is good or bad. But they have something else. Something just as powerful. They have data. For Amazon-the-bookseller, selling more books isn't a matter of solving the curation problem. It's a matter of doing something even better. They can solve the discovery problem. They don't need to figure out what most people will like. They can figure out what you, the individual reader, will like. They have data, and what they don't have, they can gather. They have expert software engineers and machine learning specialists. They have powerful cloud computing services. They have access to AI that didn't exist five years ago. Amazon could build the most vast, powerful, and creepily accurate book recommendation engine the world has ever seen. It could hit every Kindle owner with an endless fire hose of "something else you're gonna love". In fact, according to that same Amazon insider, it already built the tool. Years ago. According to the same Amazon insider, this tool existed. And it was good. Probably not good on the level of what could be built today, but good. Except Amazon, having this tool, saw no use for it. Because they assumed the book market was saturated. So, if you think you can't squeeze any more money out of readers, because you think they are reading as fast as they can, where you go for additional revenue? Authors. What you do is you take your recommendation engine, and you hand the keys to the advertising department. And they sell those recommendations, charging authors to be seen. There's two problems with this. First of all, storytelling is a winner-take-all game. Which means most authors are broke. Second, once a recommendation means nothing more than "this guy gave us some money", readers stop paying attention to it. And then you have to take it out behind the shed and shoot it, like a sick horse. Which is precisely what happened. So now Amazon is selling 50 million books, to fewer and fewer people, because they can't find what they actually want to read. This is the discovery problem. Tradpub failed because they stopped solving it. Amazon-the-bookseller is limping along, propped up by Amazon-the-computing-service, because it hasn't solved it either. Whoever solves it will win.

@Loopifyyy· about 1 month agoI do want to write a longer piece on games again it's been a while I am at this for another 2 years, which will mark at least 6-7 years me being deep in web3 gaming from every angle talking and thinking about it 24/7, founding one, investing in others, etc but I think its better to have a discussion where founders, thought leaders and more contribute to it entirely so we can gather thoughts and come to a consensus agreement I think it'll end up going back to the simple fact of what I said in this post that we build and increase fundamentals, and investors make money from non-consensus bets so if you think web3 gaming comes back you make most of your money buying things over the next 6-12 months

It's a journey filled with challenges, pivots, and invaluable learning experiences. @MihaiBullseye, founder of @_AI_Nexus, and @TomosRees2, co-founder of @PhilanthrifyApp, have “been there and done that” and shared some key insights for building a business during the first episode of a new MultiversX series entitled “Founder Sessions: Lessons From the Trenches”. Here are ten takeaways to help you navigate your own founder journey: 1. Sell the Destination, Not the Engine. Users and investors care about the benefits your product provides, not the complex technology behind it. Much like a car buyer is sold on the speed and feel of a Ferrari rather than its engine's engineering, you need to focus your messaging on the outcome. 2. Build in Public and Iterate Fast. The Web3 space demands a different approach than traditional development. Instead of perfecting a product for years behind closed doors, the advice is to get it out quickly, gather feedback, and adapt. Don't be ashamed if it's not perfect; the goal is to get feedback and grow with your community. 3. Design Your Tokenomics With Care. Many good products are buried by poor tokenomics. Founders are advised to be very careful with their economic design and to steer clear of hyperinflationary models. Aim for a balanced, or even deflationary, system if possible. 4. Leverage Your Unique Edge. Your personal background and skills are your greatest assets. Mihai leveraged 16 years of experience in Web2 mobile gaming to build a user acquisition strategy for his Web3 project. Tomos used his dual experience in charities and fintech to build a transparent giving platform. Stick to what you know. 5. Find Profitability in the Mundane. Success isn't always flashy. One of the most successful games from a founder's studio was a taxi driving simulator, which pulls in 50,000 to 60,000 organic installs a day. This shows there are huge audiences for niche or seemingly "boring" ideas. 6. Embrace Your Community. The Web3 community is unique because they are often financially invested in your project. This makes them far more engaged and a powerful source of valuable feedback. Use your audience. 7. Plan for Failure, Not Just Success. Hope is not a strategy. You need multiple contingency plans—not just a Plan B, but a "plan C, D, E, maybe F". The most successful founders are not those who take the biggest risks, but those who are best at mitigating them. 8. Don't Depend on "Magic Money". A sustainable business cannot be built on the hope that its token price will go up. Your project should have a solid business model that provides real value, independent of market speculation, to ensure you can survive market downturns. 9. Allocate Time for "Moonshot Bets". Focus on your core strategy, but don’t discount high-risk, high-reward opportunities. Tomos won the highly competitive UK Innovation grant that only 1.5% of applicants receive, which proved transformative for Philanthrify. 10. Leverage the power of modern technology. Take your business plan and run it through an AI multiple times. This gives you access to a vast repository of knowledge that can help you refine your ideas and create a better, more robust plan. Indeed, there is "no escaping the trenches" on the founder's journey. So make it your trench. Turn it trench into a launchpad. The struggle isn't the obstacle; it's the very foundation of your success.

He understands the system better than most – because he’s lived in it, exploited it, and profited from it immensely. But instead of staying silent like most quiet whales, he chose a new role: the public voice “for the community.” A role that’s easy to trust, easy to retweet, easy to sympathize with – especially when small players are feeling lost, frustrated, and shut out from the game. In polished words, masked as blunt honesty, he writes long posts calling for “transparency,” demanding fairness, asking for the system to disclose who gets the most points and how. Ultimately, it's a new major phase VeChain is launching with Stargate, a new staking system powered by protocol-level NFTs - it's the next phase of Web 3 as a whole. It's a better version of Web 2, and it's integrating real enterprises, as well as Web 3 degens looking for yield. What are we looking at from a technical perspective for VeChain? I've added a chart that technically explains everything behind the current vision on VeChain. The price has come back to where it started. Especially, in the past 6 months, it has been corrected by 70%. That's not great, and the question then is: Why did it correct so much? A lot of people will focus on the asset itself, which I think isn't fair, as protocols like Ethereum have dropped by more than 50% in the same quarter, marking it one of the worst quarters in history for crypto. It was all macro-driven, which means that if a project continues to build, that provides a big gap between the 'real' value of the token vs. the current price, as it's entirely externally driven by other factors. At some point in time, the market will be going back to 'neutral' and the protocol should be valued at its realistic price, which should be happening in the coming period as the macroeconomics are changing substantially. Ultimately, this means that the fact that VeChain is accumulating at these lows again provides a great opportunity to accumulate a position, knowing that many changes are applied to the ecosystem. Funny sidenote: In the previous run of VeChain, it ran to the 1.618 Fibonacci level, which is often referred to as the key marker in new upwards runs for the markets. If that's the case again, then the next upwards run could be to $0.12. What's next? The Stargate program is on the horizon, which provides the ability for early investors and participants to yield higher rewards for being early in that community. This provides: higher returns on your staking rewards for the first period, and being part of a great community. Now, in my previous cycle, I've been joining protocols myself (as in: I went all-in #Altcoins in that period), and I managed to stake those particular assets. Assume that you're yielding yourself an APY of 10% at current valuations. If that particular asset is substantially undervalued and continues to rally, your APY on your initial investment significantly increases, and that's where the fun kicks in. That's why I think it's vital to take a look at VeChain and the Stargate program, as it's also on my shortlist to be added to my public portfolio, especially given the upcoming program.

Finance companies once believed their years of accumulated data would give them an edge. They planned to train specialized models on top of GPT or Llama using their exclusive information. The results shocked them. Their industry-specific models performed worse than the next generation of general purpose models. The ability to synthesize new information proved more valuable than memorizing old data. McGrew introduces the concept of "embodied labor" - the human work behind data collection. Companies spent years having employees call customers, analyze case studies, and gather information through manual processes. This accumulated knowledge required massive time and money to build. It represented thousands of hours of human effort that companies thought couldn't be replicated by competitors. But AI changes everything. Instead of years of customer calls, AI can conduct comprehensive surveys instantly. Rather than manual case analysis, AI processes thousands of examples in hours. The core insight is that value wasn't in the data itself but in the labor required to collect it. Since AI makes that labor essentially free, the advantage disappears. Companies can no longer rely on their proprietary data as a protective moat. Any competitor can use AI to replicate years of data gathering almost instantly.
